Leading the Way: Compliance Training, Communication, and Technology

With a commitment to ensuring compliance and community awareness regarding child labor, PSSI has been leading the way in compliance, driven by our comprehensive compliance plan. Through dedicated efforts and a focus on people, process, and technology, we are building our compliance culture and setting new standards, reinforcing our dedication to prohibiting child labor and fostering a more responsible industry.

Enhanced Training and Communications

One of the cornerstones of our journey toward being leaders in compliance has been our investments in training and communication. We firmly believe that awareness is the first step towards change. Over the past year, we have achieved significant milestones:

  1. Expert-Crafted Training Modules: Equipped our hiring managers with specialized training designed by external compliance experts to effectively address child labor, identity theft, human trafficking, and overall compliance issues, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and up-to-date standards.
  2. Managerial Involvement: Compliance starts at the top, which is why we ensured that all managers within our organization received training on child labor issues. This top-down approach fosters a culture of responsibility and accountability throughout the company.
  3. “Speak Up” Campaign: To encourage our team members and community members to actively participate in preventing child labor, we launched a “Speak Up” campaign. This initiative empowers individuals to anonymously report any suspicious activities or concerns related to child labor.

Technology-Aided Solutions

To remain at the forefront of compliance and child labor prohibition, we use enhanced technology to streamline our hiring practices and sharpen our focus on accountability:

  1. Anti-Identity Theft Screening: We have extended our commitment to child labor prevention by conducting additional anti-identity theft screening for 100% of new hires. This measure ensures that every new team member’s identity and age is accurately verified, further reducing the risk of child labor.
  2. Improved Applicant Tracking System: We are transitioning to a new applicant tracking system that offers seamless user experiences and robust reporting capabilities, facilitating real-time reviews of I-9 status and E-Verify workflows.
  3. Biometric Timeclocks: PSSI has made a significant investment in biometric time clocks to reduce the risk of compliance violations in the field. Thanks to these efforts, we have already seen a significant reduction in biometric exceptions.

Over the past year, our company has taken significant strides towards becoming a leader in compliance and child labor awareness. We’ve built a strong compliance program centered around training, communication, and technology to drive change within our organization. By committing to a culture of responsibility and vigilance, we are dedicated to eradicating child labor from our industry and promoting compliance in the sanitation space.
