PSSI CEO Tim Mulhere Hosts Second Video Town Hall—“Compliance Comes First”

Recently, CEO Tim Mulhere held his second virtual town hall since being named CEO in April, and this time he was joined by PSSI’s General Counsel Jimmy Alaniz. Tim and Jimmy both reiterated PSSI’s zero-tolerance policy against hiring minors and discussed the importance of putting compliance first as employees work to “build the best safety and compliance company in the industry.”

Much of the town hall’s focus was on the steps PSSI is taking to prioritize compliance in the wake of last year’s Department of Labor investigation and settlement. Jimmy outlined the multi-pronged compliancy approach the company is undertaking which includes:

  • Inclusion of the Legal Department and Human Resources Department as part of PSSI’s core leadership team to institutionalize the zero-tolerance policy at the senior executive and board level.
  • Hiring a Chief Compliance Officer to oversee and monitor PSSI’s efforts (in progress).
  • Creating specific, enhanced training for employees to “minimize the risk of a minor getting around” PSSI’s compliance policy.
  • Ongoing, robust audits to ensure PSSI’s zero-tolerance policy is being enforced.
  • Exploring additional technology solutions to supplement hiring practices, such as facial recognition software.
  • Expanding community engagement to rebuild relationships.

Additionally, Jimmy touched on the new “See Something, Say Something” campaign PSSI launched in recent months which underscores the zero-tolerance policy in place. The campaign encourages PSSI employees to speak up if they see anything suspicious that might require further investigation—without the fear of repercussions.

During the town hall, Tim also lauded PSSI’s commitment to customers and the perseverance displayed by PSSI employees as signs of dedication to partnerships and the overall workforce. He named “compliant, safe, clean, and on time” as the principles that will shape PSSI’s decisions going forward and alluded to several ways that PSSI can start this next chapter, including increased communication within the company and customer retention.

The town halls are an example of Tim’s promise to communicate in a “more robust and transparent way.” They provide Tim and PSSI leadership a forum where employees can receive an overview of the company landscape amid its ongoing compliance efforts while also enabling leadership to hear and respond to employee concerns.
